FortiGate 200E end of life: replacement options, prices and support
Fortinet stopped selling the FortiGate-200E and 201E in October 2025 and supports them until October 2030. Both are still on the FortiOS 7.6 supported-models list, so this is a planning date, not an emergency. The current Fortinet replacement is the FortiGate 200G. The 200F, the generation in between, is itself past end of sale.
Lifecycle dates
| Variant | End of Sale | Last Date of Support |
|---|---|---|
| FortiGate-200E, 200E-LENC, 200E-USG | 2025-10 | 2030-10 |
| FortiGate-201E, 201E-LENC, 201E-USG | 2025-10 | 2030-10 |
Source: Fortinet hardware lifecycle feed, re-verified weekly on the 200E and 201E family pages. Under Fortinet's lifecycle policy the Last Service Extension Date is 12 months before End of Support, which puts the last contract renewal for these models around October 2029.
What the FortiGate 200E is
A 1RU next-generation firewall for a campus edge or large branch, built on Fortinet's NP6 and CP9 processors. The 201E adds onboard storage for local logging and reporting.

What end of sale means for this unit
- Still fully supported. Hardware replacement under contract, FortiGuard updates and firmware continue until October 2030.
- Current firmware. The FG-200E and FG-201E are on the FortiOS 7.6.4 supported-models list. FortiOS 7.6 has engineering support to July 2028 and support to January 2030 (endoflife.date, secondary).
- No new units from Fortinet. Expansion or a spare means the used market, and a new site means a different model.
Options
| Your situation | Practical path |
|---|---|
| Nothing urgent | Run it, keep FortiCare current, and budget the replacement before October 2029 |
| Replacing now, Fortinet | FortiGate 200G: same 1RU class, five times the threat-protection throughput |
| Replacing now, other vendor | Palo Alto PA-1410 or PA-1420; Cisco Meraki MX105 for cloud management |
| Adding a site that must match | Buy a registrable used 200E only if it will be replaced with the rest; otherwise buy the 200G |
Avoid as a replacement: the FortiGate 200F and 201F, past end of sale (October 2025 and March 2026 depending on variant).

Sources: FortiGate 200G datasheet; Palo Alto PA-1400 Series datasheet; Meraki MX95/MX105 datasheet. Each vendor measures differently: Fortinet uses enterprise mix, Palo Alto appmix with every threat feature on, Meraki one detection figure. Compare within a vendor.
How each option compares with the 200E
- FortiGate 200G. Same: FortiOS, 1RU, FortiGuard. Different: five times the threat protection, four times the IPS, 11 million sessions, 2.5G and 5G copper ports, eight 10G SFP+ FortiLink slots, and up to 256 FortiAPs and 64 FortiSwitches. The 201G adds a 480 GB SSD.
- Palo Alto PA-1410 and PA-1420. PAN-OS; threat figures measured with all threat features on. Lower raw session counts than the 200E, higher threat-inspection throughput than it.
- Meraki MX105. Cloud-managed, with a mandatory licence that, if it lapses past its grace period, stops the appliance passing traffic (Meraki licensing documentation). Meraki positions it for medium branches.
Migrating from a 200E
- Configuration conversion: FortiConverter's free opt-in licence covers FortiGate-to-FortiGate migration (Fortinet documentation). Both the 200E and the 200G run FortiOS 7.6, which keeps the move inside one release family.
- Port map: the 200G replaces 14 identical copper ports with a mix of GE, multi-gig and SFP+ FortiLink ports. Assign interfaces deliberately rather than by position.
- Subscriptions: bundles and renewals are model-specific part numbers; buy the 200G with a bundle or add one.

| FortiGate 200E, refurbished | NetworkTigers | Quote only | 365-day warranty |
Buy only a registrable used unit. A FortiGate that cannot be registered to your FortiCloud account cannot receive FortiGuard subscriptions; resellers such as NetworkTigers label units "registrable" or "local management only". A 200E kept in service to 2030 needs to be registrable to stay protected.
Third-party maintenance
With Fortinet support running to October 2030, third-party maintenance is not yet the question for a 200E. When it is, note that third-party maintainers sell hardware cover and none of the pages checked offers FortiGuard signatures or FortiOS fixes (checked 2026-10-06).
