Juniper EX2300 end of life: replacement options, prices and support
Juniper announced the end of life of the EX2300 on April 30, 2026. The last order date was September 30, 2026, bug fixes and new releases end on September 30, 2029, and End of Support is September 30, 2031. The last Junos version listed for it is 25.4. Juniper's public end-of-life table names no replacement. The current Juniper access line in the same class is the EX4000, now sold through the HPE Store.

Source: Juniper's EX Series hardware dates and milestones, row TSB107683. The same dates apply to every EX2300 hardware part number in that row: the 24- and 48-port T, P and MP models, the compact C-12T and C-12P, and their -TAA, -VC, -DC and -U variants. Every part number is on the EX2300 page, re-verified weekly. The bulletin itself (TSB107683) requires a Juniper login. A separate 2023 row on the same table covers B-EX2300 "-3S-E" software bundles, which is not the hardware end of life.
What each milestone means
- End of Hardware Failure Analysis (2027): Juniper is "no longer committed to perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis of a Hardware failure".
- End of Engineering (2029): Juniper is "no longer committed to furnish engineering level support (i.e., bug fixes, further main releases, maintenance releases".
- End of Support (2031): "the last date to receive maintenance support (i.e., access to Juniper technical support engineers, access to software releases, Online tools, Hardware replacement".
- A contract is needed throughout. Support "is contingent upon that customer having a valid, unexpired support service contract".

Junos versions
- Juniper's end-of-life table lists 25.4 as the EX2300's last software version.
- The Junos 24.4R1 release notes list the EX2300, EX2300-VC and EX2300 Multigigabit as supported platforms.
- The Junos 25.4R1 release notes (September 2026) say: "The EX2300 and EX3400 models are documented but not supported in this release." Check the release notes of the specific 25.4 build before upgrading an EX2300 to it; 24.4 is the newest train with confirmed support.
What the EX2300 is
A fixed-configuration Gigabit access switch, with multigigabit and compact fanless variants. It can be managed from the CLI, from Junos Space, or from Juniper Mist: Juniper's Mist supported-hardware list includes the EX2300, EX2300 Multigigabit and EX2300-C for Wired Assurance.

Switching capacity is bidirectional. The datasheet says Virtual Chassis "enables up to four interconnected EX2300 switches to form a single logical device", with an optional Virtual Chassis licence. The compact EX2300-C models are not in this datasheet.
Options
| Your situation | Practical path |
|---|---|
| EX2300s under a Juniper support contract | Keep running them; bug fixes continue to September 2029 and support to September 2031. Budget the replacement inside that window. |
| Need more switches of the same kind now | EX4000, the current Juniper access line; or remaining new EX2300 stock while resellers have it, accepting the shorter software life |
| Need more PoE or multigigabit ports | EX4000 MP models (PoE++, 2.5G ports, up to 960 W) |
| Leaving Juniper | Cisco Catalyst 9200L or another vendor's access switch; configuration is rebuilt, not converted |

How each option compares with the EX2300
- Juniper EX4000. Same: Junos, Mist management, matching port counts and PoE budgets at 24 and 48 ports. Different: dedicated 10G Virtual Chassis ports instead of using uplinks, Virtual Chassis of up to six, PoE++ on the MP models, and current Junos releases. The EX4000 datasheet says it forms a Virtual Chassis "with any other models within the EX4000 product line"; it does not say it can join an EX2300 Virtual Chassis, so plan to replace a stack as a whole. On the EX4000, OSPF and BGP need a Flex licence; on the EX2300 the base licence covers L2, RIP and static routing.
- Cisco Catalyst 9200L. A 24- or 48-port PoE+ access switch with four fixed 1/10G uplinks and StackWise-80 stacking of up to eight. Cisco licensing and IOS XE configuration; nothing carries over from Junos.
Migrating from an EX2300
- Licences: both lines use Juniper Flex tiers (Standard, Advanced, Premium). The EX2300's base licence covers L2, RIP and static routing; it also had EX-24-EFL and EX-48-EFL enhanced feature licences and an EX2300-VC licence for Virtual Chassis on its uplinks. Flex Advanced and Premium subscriptions include Mist Wired Assurance. Match the EX4000 tier to the features the EX2300 actually uses before ordering.
- Uplinks: the EX4000 has two 1/10G SFP+ uplinks plus two dedicated Virtual Chassis ports, where the EX2300 has four SFP/SFP+ uplinks that double as Virtual Chassis ports. Check uplink and stacking cabling.
- Junos version: a configuration from an EX2300 on 24.4 or older will move to an EX4000 on a newer train; review the release notes in between for changed features.

A used EX2300 bought now still has Juniper support available to 2031, but only under a valid Juniper support contract, per the policy above.
Third-party maintenance
Third-party maintainers can cover EX2300 hardware. Junos releases and Juniper's technical support come through a Juniper support contract, which Juniper's policy makes a condition of support of any kind. With bug fixes running to 2029, most owners can keep a Juniper contract on the EX2300 for now and use third-party cover, if at all, after that.
Questions
Is the Juniper EX2300 end of life?
Yes. Juniper announced its end of life on April 30, 2026. The last order date was September 30, 2026 and End of Support is September 30, 2031.
What is the last Junos version for the EX2300?
Juniper's end-of-life table lists 25.4. The 25.4R1 release notes say the EX2300 is documented but not supported in that release, so confirm the exact build. Junos 24.4R1 lists the EX2300 as supported.
What replaces the Juniper EX2300?
Juniper's public end-of-life table names no replacement. The current Juniper access switch line in the same class is the EX4000, with matching 24- and 48-port PoE+ models.
Can an EX4000 join an EX2300 Virtual Chassis?
The EX4000 datasheet only says it forms a Virtual Chassis with other EX4000 models. Plan to replace an EX2300 stack as a whole.
